On a small farm nestled on the stretch of land between Lakes Huron and Ontario, fields of garlic bulbs grow happily in the limestone-rich soil. This is the home of The Garlic Box, one of Canada’s best-loved garlic growers and food producers since 1997.
The Garlic Box was founded and is operated by the Rowe family, who have been champions of the eat local movement long before it gained popularity. The Rowes have patiently and persistently taught consumers about the sustainability and superior quality of locally-grown produce. Their farm is ideally situated in a region optimal for garlic production; the PH-neutral soil and cold winters make perfect conditions for growing hard-neck garlic from seed.
The Garlic Box processes an astonishing 50,000 bulbs of fresh garlic per year. Delicious garlic oils, seasonings, preserves and other items are made on-site at the farm; growing and processing garlic together in the same place allows for superior freshness and taste in every product The Garlic Box produces. The Rowes source additional ingredients for their products like peaches, honey, maple syrup and apple cider from other local producers as part of their commitment to freshness and in support of local agriculture.
Did you know? Garlic is planted in the fall and takes ten months to mature.
